Great colours but inconsistent quality

I bought the yarn to crochet a blanket as a gift. While the colours are beautiful and the blanket looks amazing, the yarn is very thin in places. Also, I was able to break off the yarn at one of the colour joins. I expected the yarn to be freshly made but the Aran cakes that I received were from a very old dyelot (Nov 2022).

Regarding the manufacturing date, yarns like these are produced in large lots—typically around 500 kg per shade—to maintain color consistency. They do not have an expiry date or degrade over time, so the date of manufacture does not affect their quality.

Knots or splices are a standard part of yarn production and can be found across all brands. However, thinning of yarn should not occur, especially in cake yarns. Could you please share images of the areas where you noticed this? We’d be happy to look into it further😊
